Because I Have To Write My Name...
The Loc Lounge was erected after the owner’s daughter was diagnosed with M7 Acute Myeloid Leukemia at the age
of one. To commemorate and honor her struggle, already being bald, he decided instead to grow his hair as a symbol
of his daughters struggle and quickly became connected with the symbolic representation of her cancer in that with dreadlocks we have the goal of one day being loc'd and lovely; with cancer, the goal was for his daughter to one day
be cured. Both goals had daily struggles, in addition to long term struggles as well. Sadly after a two year struggle
KayDance lost her battle to leukemia at the young age of three years old on July 9th, 2009. Yet this only further heightened the connection to his locs as they were a true and total expression of his daughters' fight. In becoming even more attached, the joy that his daughters life brought wholly exemplified the physical transformation his dreadlocks executed. Realizing how much his dreadlocks meant, his journey only made sense to share that joy in researching, experimenting, and increasing his skill in the avenue of dreadlocks not only for himself, but to become a source of information and an option for natural hair care. For him, dreadlocks far superseded a hairstyle, but had become a lifestyle, and a loctician was born. JayLance continues to find refuge in his dreadlocks as well as the ability to offer a piece of his daughter’s legacy with every client he has. He continues to participate in fundraising efforts for cancer research and is determined to establish The KayDance Johnson-Still Writing My Name Foundation to assist families of children with cancers to help offset the financial burden that their illness often inevitably creates. It will also be a source for homeopathic and holistic approaches to compliment conventional western medicine with the implementation of diet change, herbal remedies, meditation, prayer, and the internal uplifting of both the child and the families affected by such illnesses. The Johnson family makes yearly visits to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
in Memphis, Tennessee as KayDance was the first human being to enroll in and successfully complete the
NK-EXP protocol discovered by St. Jude's oncology researchers. For the love, generosity, and impeccable care received while KayDance was treated there, The Johnson family encourages you to help them reach their goal of donating $1,000 to St. Jude to purchase a brick along the walkway of the hospital's entrance to honor the life, legacy, and purpose of Miss KayDance Elazjah-Amira Johnson which appropriately translates into Prophetic Princess through Music and Rhythm.
